Phonics

At Wicklewood Primary School we use Read Write Inc for our phonics scheme.

Like all phonics schemes, it teaches children the sounds in English, the letters that represent them, and how to form the letters when writing.

Read Write Inc Phonics includes reading books written using only the letters they have learnt at each level and a small number of separately taught tricky words (words we have to remember and recognise that we can't sound out), referred to as 'red words in the Read Write Inc Phonics scheme.  The children will quickly feel confident and successful.

Here you can find lots of free resources including short films to support your child’s learning.

How  to say the sounds This video helps us all with ensuring we use the correct pronunciation for each sound. You can use this film alongside your child to check that mouth and lips are formed correctly when making the sound. Is it a 'bouncy' sound or a 'stretchy' one!
