Our model text this half-term is 'The Three Little Pigs' by Joseph Jacobs. This is a lovely story about three little pigs who create houses from different materials to hide from the Big Bad Wolf!

The Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. One day, the mother pig said to the three little pigs, “You are all grown up now. It’s time for you to go out into the sunshine and live on your own.” So the three little pigs packed their bags and went to build their houses.

The first little pig found some straw and quickly built his house of straw. Next, the second little pig found some sticks and made his house of sticks. Finally, the third little pig saw some bricks and thought they were strong, and he made his house of bricks.

Meanwhile, the hungry wolf saw the house made of straw. He knocked at the door. “Little pig, little pig, let me come in,” said the wolf. ”Not by the hairs on my chinny - chin - chin, I will not let you in!” said the first little pig. “Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down!” howled the angry wolf. So the Big Bad Wolf huffed and puffed, and the tiny straw house came tumbling down. The first little pig ran as fast as he could to the house made of sticks.

The Big Bad Wolf followed the little pig. He knocked at the door. “Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in,” said the wolf. The second little pig said, ”Not by the hairs on my chinny - chin - chin, I will not let you in!” “Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down!” growled the angry wolf. So the Big Bad Wolf huffed and puffed, and the stick house came tumbling down. The two little pigs ran as fast as they could to the house made of bricks.

Soon the wolf came upon the third little pig’s house. He knocked on the door. “Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in,” said the wolf. The third little pig said, ”Not by the hairs on my chinny - chin - chin, I will not let you in!” “Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down!” snarled the angry wolf. So the Big Bad Wolf huffed and puffed but nothing happened. The wolf was very angry. So he climbed up to the roof and jumped down the chimney into the fire and burnt his long tail. He ran away as fast as he could and the three little pigs lived happily ever after.
