Online Safety
Pupils at Wicklewood Primary School are taught that using the internet can be great for research, games and socialising, but you need to be skilful in how to keep yourself safe from harm.
Our school has a progressive Online Safety education programme, which is appropriate to each age and stage of our pupils. Our whole-school approach is grounded in Childnet's 'SMART' rules:
Curriculum
We have a clear, progressive online safety education programme that is taught primarily as part of the computing curriculum, but is also embedded within the wider culture of the school. This covers a range of skills and behaviours appropriate to the children's age and experience. We use Project Evolve and National Online Safety (NOS) to deliver the curriculum, both of which are built around the UKCIS framework “Education for a Connected World” (2020) and the following strands:
- Self-Image & Identity
- Online Relationships
- Online Reputation
- Online Bullying
- Managing Online Information
- Health, Wellbeing & Lifestyle
- Privacy & Security
- Copyright & Ownership
Tips for staying safe online:
- Only use respectful language when talking to other people online. You should expect respect from others, too
- Only play games that are safe and appropriate for your age. Some are for older children.
- Check every download, app and attachment - they might contain a virus or be a scam.
- Keep your personal information private - such as your full name, address, school and passwords
- Always tell a grown-up you trust if you feel upset or worried about what has happened online
