Eco Council

Meet our Eco Council!

The Eco Council is made up of students from across the school who meet every fortnight to discuss ways of improving our school's sustainability habits.

Meeting Minutes 4.11.24

The Eco Council prepared a presentation to be delivered in assembly introducing the whole school to the Cut Your Carbon challenge. Councillors will be encouraging their class to take part in 6 activities at home that will help reduce their carbon footprint. The class that returns the most completed checklists at the end of the month will win the Eco Elephant award for the autumn term.

Meeting Minutes 7.10.24

The councillors worked together to complete an environmental review of our school and the things that we are currently doing to make Wicklewood sustainable. We tallied up the scores in 11 areas - lower scores mean there is more room to grow!

Biodiversity - 4/10

School Grounds - 7/10

Energy - 3/10

Global Citizenship - 6/10

Transport - 7/10

Waste - 6/10

Water - 4/10

Litter - 4/10

Healthy Living - 6/10

Marine - 1/10

Other (including carbon monitoring, green careers, environmental trips and actions) - 1/10

Meeting Minutes 24.9.24

During our first meeting, the councillors introduced themselves and explained why they wanted to be a part of the Eco Council. We also began brainstorming ideas for making Wicklewood a green school - ideas included planting more trees and flowers, picking up litter to protect wildlife, and installing solar panels for the school.

Why did you decide to join the Eco Council?

Ocean (Year 6): "I decided to join because I want to make the school a better place and to help animals."

Holly (Year 5): "I joined because I really like animals and think that we should help the wildlife around us. Every plant, tree and animal deserves a chance."

Oliver (Year 5): "I joined because I love picking up rubbish, turning off lights and helping the environment."

Isla (Year4): "I would like to make a litter picking club at lunch times and protect animals at our school."

Philly (Year 4): "I joined because I would like to help the world and make it a better place."

Willow (Year 3): "Because if an animal visits we should pick up any litter on the playground."

Izabella (Year 3): "Because I want to save the world and save wildlife."

Harry and Willow (Year 2): "Because the Eco Council helps people and is good for the planet."

Eve and Rauf (Year 1): "I want to help the animals."
