Our model text this half-term is 'Farmer Duck' by Martin Wadell. The children will be linking this text to all areas of our curriculum. We will begin by exploring the characters in the story. New vocabulary will be introduced during group discussions. We will be learning about planting, growing and changes.

During ‘Talk for Writing’ we will be learning to retell our story, using actions and following a story map. The children will then create their own story maps from what we have learnt as a whole class.  Towards the end of the half-term, the children will create their own versions of the story, changing the animals to their own ideas and thoughts.

We will be linking our key text to a trip to the farm, exploring farm life and meeting the animals.

Talk 4 Writing - Farmer Duck Script

There once was a duck who lived with a lazy old farmer. The duck did all the work. The farmer stayed in bed. The duck fetched the cow from the field.

“How goes the work? Called the farmer.

The duck answered “Quack!”

The duck brought the sheep from the hill.

“How goes the work? Called the farmer.

The duck answered “Quack!”

The duck put the hens in the house.

“How goes the work? Called the farmer.

The duck answered “Quack!”

“How goes the work?”

“Quack!”

“How goes the work?”

“Quack!”

“How goes the work?”

“Quack!”

The poor duck was sleepy and weepy.

The animals made a plan to help the duck

They crept into the house and rocked the lazy farmer out of his bed.

“How goes the work”?

“Moo,”

“Baa,”

“Cluck.”

The Farmer fled.

Down the lane.” Moo.”

Through the fields, “Baa,”

Over the hill,” Cluck,”

The farmer was gone.

The duck was weary.

The animals came back.

“Quack?” asked the duck.

“Moo,” said the cow.

“Baa,” said the sheep.

“Cluck” said the hens.

Which told the duck the story.
