Jay - Year 1

Welcome to Jay Class Page!

Class Timetable

Week Beginning Monday 3rd February 2025

We are currently reading stories about adventures and weather in Jay Class.

Our model text this half of Spring term is Pirate Tom. We will be learning to retell the story using a story map and actions as a whole class. We  will then innovate the story by substituting the setting. We will do this by exploring alternative settings such as a river habitat or mountains. We will create word banks to support our learning about an alternative setting and rehearse different story openers to include in our innovated and invented stories. At the end of this half-term we will be inventing our own adventure story based on a Pirate. Year 1 children will learn to write an adventure story of their own.  Reception children will be able to vocalise ideas for a pirate story as well as be able to retell their own class version. Reception children will also have their very own writing journals as they begin to evidence more of their learning through writing and drawing. We will also examine written instructions as part of our non-fiction unit of work. The children will follow instructions for a pirate to reach a particular destination and then write their own set of instructions for a friend to follow.
